About Me
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, I always liked numbers. As an eighth grader I was taking Algebra I. But then I moved to western North Carolina, where I had to study independently and was busy adjusting to rural life. At Brevard High, I excelled and competed in contests at WCU and Furman University, helping teams bring home trophies and top honors. During this time, I assisted in a few algebra classes, and discovered how helpful I could be. My senior year I took Calculus I. My PSAT qualified me for a partial National Merit Scholarship to UNC-Chapel Hill.
As a math major, I suddenly saw how challenging lectures given by college professors could be. Living on a large campus in a high-rise dormitory kept me occupied as much as my studies. After two years, I switched my major from math to statistics, since it seemed much more practical. After a few failures I thought that my hopes of grad school were dashed, but I was wrong. After years of other work, I scored well on the GRE and went to grad school at UNC-Charlotte, earning my masters in three years. I taught at a private school and other colleges in the area, including CPCC since 2003.
